LINDENLEE Australian Stock Horses

Australian Stock Horses

Recognised for its versatility and superior performance amongst work and leisure breeds, the Australian Stock Horse (ASH) is considered to be the ‘Breed for Every Need’.  Registered horses now compete successfully in every equine discipline (see pictures of two of our youngsters below), from polocrosse to endurance riding, as well as continuing to work on farms across the country.

The history of the Australian Stock Horse is one closely tied to the development and culture of Australia as a nation. Now considered one of the world’s most versatile horses, the forebears of this horse arrived in Australia on the First Fleet in 1788.  It is a breed that has evolved over time through selective breeding based on English Thoroughbred and Spanish stock as well as Arabs, Timor and Welsh Mountain Ponies in response to the harsh demands of the environment.

The Australian Stock Horse Society aims to preserve and promote the bloodlines of the breed. Established in 1971, the Society is the largest of more than 70 individual horse breed associations in Australia, enjoying a loyal and growing membership of more than 9000 individuals and with more than 150,000 horses registered. The official website of the Society contains information for current and future ASH owners, as well as for those who just want to learn more about this great Australian icon.

All of the horses we breed are fully ASHS studbook registered so ask us about becoming a member and the opportunities it opens up. There are regular shows and competitions held by each local branch and covering almost every equestrian discipline, plus training courses and sales of top-quality registered horses held each year, for registered horses and members.
